Rites Saturday for “Ma” Brandt
Funeral services will be held Saturday at United Methodist Church for Lydia (Ma) Brandt, 77, of Estherville, who died Wednesday at Holy Family Hospital. The Rev. Richard Pearson will officiate and burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be grandsons Don Hockett, Dale Brandt, Lonnie Wilson, David Griese, Dennis Brandt, and Jim DeMoss.

Mrs. Brandt was born Feb. 25, 1884 at Welcome, Minn., to August and Minnie Jurries.

On Jan. 1, 1913 she was married to Ivar Brandt at Sherburn, Minn. They lived in the Sherburn and Ceylon and Three Forks, Montana area and moved to Estherville in the fall of 1932. Mrs. Brandt was employed in several cafes in Estherville as a cook.

Survivors are two sons, George Brandt, Albuquerque, N.M. and Doug Brandt, Estherville, four daughters, Mrs. Arnold (Margaret) Hockett, Mrs. Florine Vandevanter and Mrs. Gilbert (Mary) Stevens, Estherville and Mrs. Glenn (Minnie) Grieve, Liberal, Kan., 26 grandchildren 23 great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Amelia Matthes, Lawndale, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband Mar. 8, 1948, three sons, Edward, Floyd and Charles, two grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter.
