Longtime Gruver Resident Dies at Age of 77
Raymond Brannan, about 77, longtime resident of the Gruver area, died today at 2:30 a.m. at a hospital in Cherokee. Death was attributed to a heart condition and pneumonia.Mr. Brannan was born at Tonica, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. George Brannan. The family moved to Iowa in 1898.
For many years Mr. Brannan and his sister, the late Iva Brannon, farmed in the Gruver area and after retirement from the farm, established their home in Gruver.
Survivors of Mr. Brannan include three sisters, Mrs. Frank (Kate) Grems and Mrs. Walter (Susie) Grems, both of Estherville, and Mrs. Henry (Sadie) Krieger, Lockport, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Iva.
Funeral arrangements have not been made as yet but will be published in tomorrow’s Daily News. The body is being returned here today to the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 3, 1961)
Brannan Rites Monday
Funeral services for Raymond Brannan, 77, longtime Gruver area resident who died yesterday in a hospital in Cherokee, will be 2:00 p.m. Monday in the Sternborg-Reese chapel, the Rev. L.V. Osborne officiating. Friends may call at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home until the time of services. Pallbearers will be Alan Krieger, Bill Ramsey, Louis Harvey, George Harvey, George Calahan and Wallace Brown. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 4, 1961)
