Pfc. Daniel L. Boone Killed in Germany, Feb. 25
His Picture in Last Letter Received From Him
Pfc. Daniel Leigh Boone, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.N. Boone of Estherville, was killed in action Feb. 25 in Germany it was learned Friday by his parents.

Mr. and Mrs. Boone received a letter Wednesday, dated Feb. 20, in which was enclosed a recent picture of himself.

Private Boone, who was born Sept. 6, 1924, attended the Estherville schools and was graduated from the local high school May 28, 1942. While in school Private Boone was especially interested in music and sports. He was a member of the mixed chorus and participated in the junior class play.

Six Months Overseas
Drafted May 8, 1943 Boone took training at Camp Hood, Texas, and then went to Muncie, Inc., where he attended a special school of training, after which he was one of a number of army service men who policed Philadelphia during a series of street car strikes.

Following that experience he was sent to Texas again and then sent overseas where he has been for almost six months. A member of the Ozark division of the Ninth army under General Bernard L. Montgomery, Private Boone had fought in France, Holland and Belgium.

3 Brothers in Service
He is survived by his parents, three brothers, Sgt. Warren Boon, who is stationed in England; Ralph, a drill instructor at Parris Island, N.C.; Lieut. L. N. Boone who is a pilot at Victor Field, Calif., and spent a year and a half in New Guinea; two sisters, Jean, who is attending the Estherville schools and Lorabelle who is now Mrs. Howard Beaver of Clinton. Ralph was in the Pacific for some time and was stationed at Midway Island when the war in the Pacific began. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, March 15, 1945)
