The little daughter of Swine Huff [Svend Hoff[, of Peterson township, who was seriously burned some three weeks ago, by her clothes taking fire while boiling sap, died on the 17th inst., from the effects of the wounds then received. (Northern Vindicator, Estherville, IA, April 19, 1871)

From Pioneer Memoirs: In a farm fire Svend Hoff's daughter was burned to death after "great suffering."

According to 1870 census records, Barbel Hoff was born in 1858 in MN

Note: she is probably buried in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery with her parents, brother and sister.
