Mrs. Leona Beck Dies
Mrs. Leona Beck, 49, Estherville, died at 12:38 a.m. today at Holy Family Hospital where she had been a patient. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville. Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home from 9 a.m. tomorrow until Thursday noon. Funeral services for Mrs. Leona Beck will be held Thursday afternoon.Mrs. Beck, 49, died at 12:38 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital from cancer. She had been in failing health the past nine months.
Mrs. Beck was born April 25, 1919, at Grundy Center, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chris Juhl. She moved to a farm near Estherville with her parents when she was five years old. She attended Estherville schools.
On March 11, 1946, she was married to Harry L. Beck at Spirit Lake. After their marriage they made their home at Estherville.
She was employed for a number of years at the John Deere Implement Co., at Northern Lumber Co., and the last five years as deputy county treasurer. She was a member of White Shrine.
Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn at home, a son, Kenneth of Estherville; two brothers, Dale and Lawrence Juhl, Estherville; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Buhr, Sanborn, Minn.; Mrs. Ryan (Carrie) Hoffmeyer, Estherville, Mrs. Florence Hoffmeyer, Fremont, Calif.; Mrs. Bill (Maxine) Mahin, Chula Vista, Calif., and her mother, Mrs. Chris Juhl of Estherville.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1954, and by her father.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church in Estherville, the Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home anytime today and until noon on Thursday when the casket will be taken to the church.
Pallbearers will be Harlan Nelson, Arnold Anliker, Jack Rogers, O.C. Gibson, Leonard Bendixen, and Clifford Rauhauser. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 8, 1969)

The courthouse will be closed between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Thursday in observance of the funeral of Leona Beck, former county employee.Anyone scheduled for a personal property assessment interview with county assessor’s officials during this time has been asked to report the following Monday, according to County Assessor Wayne Lynch.
