Harry L. Beck, son of James and Anna Beck, was born Dec. 23, 1906 in Kossuth [Emmet] county, Armstrong, Iowa, and died Feb. 25, 1954 at Estherville.

He took his own life that morning at his place of business. The only reason any of the members of his family could give for him taking his own life was poor health and worry over business. Harry grew to manhood on the farm with his parents and continued to live in the Armstrong community until about 17 years ago after which time he came to Estherville with the Northern Lumber Co. implement department for 12 years and for the past five years he was with Farmers Supply Co.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church all his life, of which he was one of the trustees. He was also a member of North Star Lodge No. 447, White Shrine, Knights Templer and Chamber of Commerce.

He was united in marriage to Leona Juhl March 11, 1946. To this union was born two children, Kenneth, seven years, and Kathyrn, three and a half years. His survivors include his wife and two children, two sisters and five brothers. They are Mrs. Richard Metz of Ringsted, Mrs. Andrew Burt of Armstrong, George of Armstrong, Einer of Ringsted, Shirley of Monmouth, Ore., August of Swea City, William of Gowrie. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Chris. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 8, 1954)

Our heartfelt thanks to all who extended comforting sympathy and help in our recent sorrow. We especially wish to thank Rev. Melton, the Masonic order, Mrs. Sternborg, floral offerings and other kindnesses, we are deeply grateful. The Harry Beck family (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 5, 1954)
