O. D. BARRETT Dies After Long Illness
86 Year Old Retired Farmer
O. D. BARRETT, 86, of Estherville died last night at Holy Family Hospital following an extended illness. He was admitted to Holy Family hospital Friday as a medical patient.Mr. Barrett was born in Pennsylvania June 9, 1862, and has lived in and near Graettinger for a number of years before coming to the Estherville Vicinity where he lived on a farm for a few years and later moved to Estherville to make his home. Mrs. (Mary E. Phillips) Barrett died on April 28, 1942. Mr. Barrett was a member of the Methodist church.
Survivors include three children, Frank Barrett of Estherville, Leonard Barrett of Dolliver and Mrs. Willard (Esther Barrett) Crim, also of Estherville.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 from the Mahlum & Sandin funeral parlors and at 2 pm from the Methodist church. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery.

Another pioneer of this vicinity has gone to his reward. O. D. Barrett passed away at Holy Family hospital last Sunday [February 8, 1948] evening. Mr. Barrett was quiet a man for the kids and it seems we have known him almost as far back as we can remember. Mr. Barrett has been ill for some time back but was only in the hospital a short time.He was born June 9, 1862 in Pennsylvania. He came to Graettinger when a young man and has resided in the community and in Estherville since that time. His wife preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, Frank and Leonard and one daughter, Mrs. Willard Crim.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Mahlum and Sandin funeral home at 1:30 and from the Methodist church of which he was a member at 2:00, the Rev. C. J. Semans officiating. Interment was in the family lot in the East Side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 12, 1948)

O.D. Barrett, 86, of Estherville, a former resident of Graettinger, passed away at Holy Family hospital, Estherville, Sunday evening, following a long illness. The funeral was held from the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in the East Side cemetery. The Barrett family resided on a farm in this vicinity for several years and later moved to town and operated an auto livery here. The family moved to Estherville around 20 years ago. Mr. Barrett was born in Pennsylvania June 9, 1862. Mrs. Barrett passed away April 28, 1942. Survivors are three children, Frank, of Estherville; Leonard, of Dolliver; and Mrs. Willard Crim, of Estherville. Mr. Barrett was a very fine gentleman and always merited the good will and esteem of his friends and associates. The Times extends sympathy to the sons and daughters in their sorrow.
