Mrs. George Bartleman Dies at 75
Mrs. George Bartleman, 75, resident of Emmet County for more than 45 years died today at 3 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital where she had been a patient for the past three weeks. Mrs. Bartleman has been in failing health for about five years. Her death was attributed to a heart attack. Johanna Anderson was born July 18, 1886 here in Emmet County, the daughter of Carl and Anna Anderson. She received her education in the Emmet County Schools.She was married on March 14, 1910 to George Bartleman at Watertown, S.D., and for the first nine years of their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Bartleman lived at Montevidio, Minn., where Mr. Bartleman was employed on the Milwaukee Railway.
They then moved to Emmet County and farmed in this area for 45 years, retiring from the farm last September and moving to Estherville because of Mrs. Bartleman’s health.
Mrs. Bartleman has been a lifelong member of Estherville Lutheran Church and has been presented a life membership in the ALCW woman’s organization of the church.
Surviving her death are her husband; two sons, Elmo of Estherville and Ray of Detroit, Mich.; two daughters, Mrs. Lester (Vivian) Hanson of this city and Mrs. Steve (Alice) Holl of Albany, Ore.; 15 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Also surviving are one brother, Gus Anderson, and one sister, Mrs. Henry Hoganson, both of Estherville.
Funeral services are to be Saturday at Estherville Lutheran Church, a 1:30 family service to be followed by a 2 p.m. service, the Rev. Roy M. Hendrickson officiating. Burial will be in the East Side cemetery.
Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home from Friday until Saturday at 11 a.m. at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of the services.
Pallbearers will be E. J. Opelt, M. H. Natterstad, Louis Krier, Levi Larson, Thomas Juhl and Roy Ridler. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 19, 1962)
