Death Takes Leonard Barrett, 79
Leonard Barrett, 79, lifetime resident of Emmet County, died Tuesday [November 21, 1967] about 9:30 a.m. of a heart attack. Mr. Barrett was stricken while working at his farm south of Estherville.

Leonard Arthur Barrett was born March 16, 1883, in Estherville, the son of Oatis and Mary Barrett. He received his education in the Emmet County schools.

On April 30, 1912, he was married in Estherville to Caroline Monson. He and Mrs. Barrett farmed in the Estherville area until their retirement in 1957. Since that time they had continued to live in their farm home until this fall when they moved into Estherville to make their home.

Mr. Barrett was a member of the First Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Earl of Armstrong and Raymond of Maple Hill; five daughters, Mrs. Jack (Esther) Hogan of Marengo, Mrs. R. J. (Margaret) Hansen of Clear Lake, Mrs. Harold (Mary) Hoff of Abilene, Tex., Mrs. George (Ruth) Thrane of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Cecil (Mildred) Wiseman of Estherville; 23 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Mr. Barrett will be Friday at 2 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. C. R. Buckwalter officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Thursday until time of services on Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 22, 1967)
