Mrs. Frank Barrett Passed Away Last Thursday

Funeral Was Held Monday Afternoon

Mrs. Frank (Johannah) Barrett, 62, passed away Thursday, February 14, after an illness of 4 years. The remains were taken to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lars Petersen, of Graettinger, where friends could call Sunday afternoon and evening.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon. Short services were conducted here and the regular funeral services at the Methodist church in Estherville. Rev. Arthur Rasmussen, pastor of the Graettinger Methodist church officiated. Burial was in the East Lawn cemetery, at Estherville. Many old neighbors and friends as well as relatives attended the funeral services.

Hanna Nelson was born Oct. 7, 1889, in Graettinger. She was 62 years of age last October. Her life was spent in the vicinity of Graettinger where she grew to womanhood.

On February 23, 1910, she was united in marriage to Frank W. Barrett. To this union three children were born, two sons and a daughter.

After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Barrett resided on farms in Emmet and Palo Alto counties. A few years ago they moved to Graettinger and made their home here until Mrs. Barrett's illness.

She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and two sons, Leonard, of Graettinger; and John O. Barrett, of Estherville; and one daughter, Mrs. Alice Smith, of Milford. Her death is also mourned by two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Nels Nelson, of Graettinger; and William Nelson, of Laurens. The sisters are Mrs. Christine Hersleff, of Wallingford; and Mrs. John Platter, of Graettinger. There are five grandchildren and many other relatives as well as a host of friends.

Mrs. Barrett was a devoted wife and mother, a kind and loving sister, and neighbor whose friendship and good will was prized by all. She was in every way a most worthy Christian woman. She was a member of the Methodist church for many years.

The Times extends sympathy to Mr. Barrett and to the sons and daughter and to the brothers and sisters in their sorrow. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, February 21, 1952)
