Heart Attack Is Fatal To John Baker
John Franklin Baker, 85, died yesterday afternoon at his home in Estherville. The cause of death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been in failing health for the past two months.

Mr. Baker was born Sept. 5, 1878, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Baker, at Great Bend, Kan. He received his education in the Delta and Sigourney schools.

He was married to the former Sylvia Cox on June 2, 1903, at Harvey. Following their marriage they farmed in Marion County until 1912 at which time they moved to Palo Alto County where they farmed until moving to Estherville in 1933.

Baker was custodian at the Jackson school for several years until his retirement in 1948.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

Surviving are his widow, three sons, Gene of Terril, Lloyd of Des Moines, Charles of Estherville; four daughters, Mrs. Barney (Beulah) Hassel of Wallingford, Mrs. Donald (Peggy) Billings of Estherville, Mrs. Richard (Mary) Hanson of Estherville and Mrs. Dorothy Satterlee of Estherville. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Hunt of Atherton, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one granddaughter.

Family services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Reese Funeral Home Chapel. Public services will follow at 2 p.m. at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Denzil Neumann officiating. Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from noon today until noon on Wednesday at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 1, 1963)
