Funeral Rites for Maurice Bringle Were Held Today
The community was surprised and shocked last Friday when it was announced on the streets of the city that our former business man, Maurice Bringle, had passed away in his home town of Minot, N. Dak. It had been known for a few days that he was seriously ill, but it was thought he was improving.

Mr. Bringle, who formerly was in the shoe business in this city, was an extremely popular business man. He was one of the most loyal men to his friend. The loss to his community would be great regardless of where he resided.

Maurice M. Bringle, the second child of Jacob and Bella Bringle, was born October 14, 1895, in Dickinson County, Iowa. As a child he was baptized at the Union State Line Lutheran Church. Here at the age of fifteen he renewed his baptismal covenant. He received his education in the public school at Superior and the Estherville Business College. In 1916, together with his brother, A. T. Bringle, he entered the shoe business in Estherville. At his brother’s retirement from the partnership he continued the business under the name of Bringle’s Bootery. He sold out his business here in the latter part of 1928 and became connected with Gilla Bros. Department Store in Sioux Falls, S. Dak. From there he went to Minot, N. Dak., in 1920 having received a position with the J. C. Penney Company at that place. At his death he was a salesman of the clothing and furnishings department, ranking as second man in the store. On several occasions he received national recognition in the organization for volume of sales.

On June 25, 1924, he was united in marriage to Gladys Marie Heyer of Estherville. Their union was blessed with five children. Robert Merton, who died a day old, and Joyce, Jean, Phyllis Joan, and Gloria Jane.

Mr. Bringle had been sick with the influenza when he became seriously ill from heart trouble and high blood pressure complicated by pneumonia and kidney trouble. He passed away Friday morning at 3:20 at Trinity Lutheran Hospital. His parents and brothers, Arthur of Petersburg, and Rev. Albert Bringle of Dell Rapids, reached Minot Wednesday and were with him to the end. Mr. Bringle was very devoted to his family and a man who readily made and kept friends wherever he went. While here he was an active member of Estherville Lutheran Church and served for several years as usher. He was also assistant in the boys club. At Minot the family joined the First Lutheran Church. Here he also served as usher and as teacher of a boys class in the Sunday School. To his brother at his bedside he said he would have liked to have had a few more years with his family, but if the Lord willed otherwise he was satisfied and ready to go. Besides the sorrowing wife and children and his parents and the two above mentioned brothers, he leaves the following brothers and sisters: Elmer, Elwin, Margaret, Lubie and Claire of Estherville and Beulah, Mrs. Kenneth Riley, of Sioux Falls, S. Dak.

The funeral services here were held this afternoon at two o’clock at the home of Mrs. E. C. Heyer and at two-thirty at the Lutheran Church with Rev. Mathre officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1933)
