Samuel Wood Dies at 70; Rites Monday
Samuel J. Wood, 70, of Estherville, who fell from the roof at the Orel Young home in October and had been hospitalized in Estherville and Rochester since that time, died this morning at Holy Family Hospital.

Mr. Wood was born April 7, 1890, at Laurens, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wood. He received his education in Laurens schools. He was married to Alice Donovan at Ayrshire in November of 1920. The couple lived at Ayrshire for four years before moving to Estherville. Mr. Wood worked a number of years for the Rock Island Railroad and since then has been engaged in construction work. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church.

He is survived by his widow, three sons, Joe of Lawton, Okla., John of Riverside, Calif., and Robert S. of Cedar Rapids, and five grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Orin of Spencer and Jim of Waterloo, and a sister, Mary Wood of Idaho.

Mr. Wood was preceded in death by a son William, his parents and three brothers.

Services will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church in Estherville, the Rev. James Duhigg officiating. Interment will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery. The rosary will be said Sunday at 8:00 p.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrmans from this evening until the time of services.

Pallbearers will be Louis Krier, Frank Campisano, Nolan Boggess, Ben Burns, Henry Neppl and Cyril Bormann. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 24, 1960)
