Mrs. Parriott Dies At Albert Mahlum Home
Mrs. Marion Parriott, for thirty-nine years a resident of Estherville, died at the home of Albert Mahlum, her son-in-law, at 1:15 yesterday afternoon, after suffering from a series of ailments which had gradually weakened her. She was 85 years of age, and is survived by a brother, George Galloway, 89, of Britt; and two sons, J. Byron Parriott, of Rochester, Minn., and Bert J. Parriott, of White Salmon, Washington. A daughter, Mrs. Albert Mahlum, died two years ago. Funeral services will be held at the Mahlum home Friday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.Cornelia L. Galloway was born at East Oxford, Ontario, Canada, Dec. 7, 1845. Her father died when Cornelia was but seven years old, and two years later she moved with her mother to Valpariso, Ind. At the age of 24 she moved with the rest of the family to Aplington, Iowa, and there she met Marion Parriott, whom she married in 1871. Four children were born to the couple, but only two remain. Clarence died in infancy, and Edith, known in Estherville as Mrs. Albert Mahlum, died December 1, 1928. The two remaining children, and the brother will not be able to attend the funeral, Mr. Mahlum said yesterday.
Mrs. Parriott has been united with the Methodist church since she was 14, and has always taken a great deal of interest in missionary work. Her contribution to the mission task was to maintain a series of scholarships for children in Korea, China and India.
Since coming to Estherville in 1891 Mrs. Parriott has remained a resident, leaving the city only for short visits. After the death of Mrs. Mahlum, the mother went to Washington, intending to live with her son, Bert. She became homesick for Estherville after a short time, and soon returned to make her home with her son-in-law. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, August 14, 1930)
