John Waldron, Longtime City Resident, Dies
John J. Waldron, 78, retired Estherville drayman and former employee of the Rock Island road, died 10 a.m. today in Holy Family hospital of a heart attack. He had not been seriously ill except for a few hours before death.He was born Dec. 15, 1871[per cemetery records 1870] in Waukon and received his education there. Oct. 12, 1898 he was married to Frances Conlon in Emmetsburg and the couple came to Estherville to live six years later.
He worked first for the Rock Island road, later operated his own dray line from which he has been retired for about 10 years. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic church.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, John of Monrovia, Calif.; Charles and Leonard of Estherville and Robert of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Edgar Price of Duncombe and Mrs. Edgar Center at home; two brothers, Charles at Emmetsburg and Mike in San Francisco, and three sisters, Mrs. Delia Lindland and Mrs. George Black of Los Angeles, and Mrs. Gus Shellsmith of Harpers Ferry, In. He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.
Services have been delayed pending word from the son in California. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 12, 1949)
