ESTHERVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial for Roger Allen Herum, 49, of Estherville will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes as Celebrant. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville.

He died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, at his home in Estherville.

Roger Allen Herum, the son of Phillip and Mary (Schacherer) Herum, was born March 31, 1961, in Estherville.

He received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1979. He received his associate of applied science degree at Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg.

Roger lived most of his life in Estherville other than living in Arizona where he owned Sun Valley Maintenance Supply Company until 1990. On his return to Estherville he was employed at Stylecraft in Milford. On Sept. 12, 1997, he was united in marriage to Amy Templeton in Estherville. The couple made their home in Estherville. Roger was employed in sales at a seed company and car sales for Motor Inn Auto Group in Spencer. He was employed as a driver and merchandiser for Pepsi from 2005 until 2010 and for a brief time until his illness, worked for American Welding Supply. He and his brother Doug also farmed together.

He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Pheasants Forever. In his leisure time Roger was an avid golfer, hunter, fisherman and card player. He loved and enjoyed life and was loved by many for his easygoing manner and wry smile.

Roger is survived by his wife, Amy, of Estherville; his children, Zach, Carson and Claire Herum; mother, Mary Herum of Wallingford; brother, Douglas Herum, and his fiance, Julie Jackson, of Estherville as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father; brother, Greg, and paternal and maternal grandparents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA)
