ESTHERVILLE - Mass of Christian Burial for Marvin "Bud" Johnson, 82, of Estherville will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Father Brian Hughes as Celebrant. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Vigil Service at 7 p.m. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Estherville with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 of Estherville.
He died Thursday, Dec. 2, 2010, at Avera Holy Family Health in Estherville.
Marvin E. "Bud" Johnson, the son of Martin and Ivy (Platter) Johnson, was born Oct. 16, 1928, in Hunter, N.D.
He received his education in the Estherville schools. Bud served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. On Oct. 6, 1951, he was united in marriage to Geraldine Dixon in Boston, Mass. They lived in the Boston area for a short time where they began their family. In 1955, the family moved to Estherville to make their home. Bud was employed with the City of Estherville for awhile. Later he was employed at John Morrell and Company for 18 years. Then he went to work for the Estherville Community School District until his retirement, driving school bus. He was very proud of the fact that he received several safe driving awards. For hobbies he enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville and a lifetime member of VFW Post 3388.
Left to cherish Bud's memory are his wife, Geraldine, of Estherville; daughters, Lois Christians and her husband, Don, of Milford, Donna Hovick of Estherville, Teresa Mustard and her husband, Bruce, of Des Moines, Sandy Mann and her husband, Tim, of Estherville and Marie Spangler of Spirit Lake; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and brother, Larry Johnson, and his wife, Ann, of Neenah, Wis.
He was preceded in death by, two sons, Michael Edward and Martin Edward; grandson, Shawn Hovick; son-in-law, John Spangler; his parents; two sisters, Donna Lenz and Dorothy Linn, and two brothers, William and James. (Estherville Daily News Estherville, IA)
