Peter Scholtes Dies at 93
Peter F. Scholtes, 93, for many years a resident of Estherville, died Sunday, July 9, 1972, at Hillsboro, Wis., where he was a resident in a nursing home.
Mr. Scholtes was a retired Rock Island railroad engineer and had lived here until the death of his wife several years ago when he went to live with his children and later became a resident of the nursing home at Hillsboro.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic church here with Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Rosary will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Fuhrman Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
Friends may call at the Funeral Home any time on Tuesday until time of the funeral Wednesday.

Scholtes Rites on Wednesday
Peter F. Scholtes, 93, former Estherville resident who died July 9, 1972, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Hillsboro, Wis., was born Dec. 3, 1878, in Frier, Germany.
He married Theresa Bofenkamp at Ellsworth, Minn., April 15, 1903, and the couple came to Estherville that year. He was a Rock Island Railroad engineer for more than 50 years. Mrs. Scholtes died in March, 1966.
Mr. Scholtes is survived by a son, Lambert P. Scholtes of Oak Park, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Eileen Cohn of Bethesda, Md.; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Matt Scholtes of Estherville and Fritz Scholtes of Milbank, S.D., and three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Trevett of Milbank, Mrs. Clare Haley of Sioux City and Sister M. Winifred of Rochester, Minn.
Requiem Mass was celebrated Wednesday, July 12, at St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Estherville, Msgr. James H. Duhigg officiating. Burial was in St. Patrick’s cemetery.
Here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Lambert Scholtes, Mrs. Cohn, Sister Winifred, Mrs. Haley, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Haley of Sioux City, and grandchildren, Peter Scholtes of Lynn, Mass.; Mrs. Richard Reilly, Deerfield, Ill.; and Mrs. James P. Marcum, Kansas City, Mo.
Pallbearers were Selmer Amdal, Mike Calhan, Peter Geil, Vernon Goecke, Kenneth Meadows and Ralph Oehrlein.
