John Scollon Died Suddenly Late Friday
John Scollon, 64,was victim of a heart attack late Friday [June 30, 1944] afternoon while working for Harry Swanson on his farm southeast of Spirit Lake. He passed away very suddenly about 6 o’clock.The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Fr. Keane, in the St. Patrick Catholic church in Estherville Saturday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment was made in the Estherville Catholic cemetery.
The pall bearers were James Parks, W. G. Hyde, Harry Cafferty, Harry Swanson, Ray Swanson and Ed Goodman.
John Scollon was born at Lohrville, Iowa, March 22, 1880. He had been a resident of Dickinson county for thirty-five years. He was never married. He had always made his home with his sister and brother when not employed elsewhere.
He is survived by three sisters and five brothers, Miss Ann Scollon and Peter and James Scollon at home, and Mrs. W. G. Hyde, Mrs. James Parks, Ed, B.F. and Frank Scollon, all of Sioux Falls.
Mr. Scollon was a kind brother, good neighbor and was liked by all who were privileged to have known him. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, July 6, 1944)
