Death claimed Douglas Reynolds last Friday [March 12, 1948] at 1:30 a.m. from the effects of the dreaded disease, leukemia. “Doug” as he was known to everyone, had been ill since he was discharged from service. He had been a patient in Holy Family hospital several times and entered that hospital again about a week before his death. He suffered greatly but all the time he was pleasant and cheerful, a fine character and a fine disposition, and beloved by all who knew him.He was born September 12, 1919, in this city. He graduated from our public schools and junior college. He also attended the University at Notre Dame for a session.
He was employed at the former Myhre and Jeglum store and enlisted in the service on February 2, 1940. He was in the service for five years with the Military Police. It was while in this service he contracted the disease which took his life.
He was married to Margery Ellerston of this city and they have a son, Lynn, eight months of age.
He has been in the Sportsman’s Store with his two brothers since he returned from service.

A military funeral was held on Monday from St. Patrick’s Church. The church was packed to capacity and the sermon of Father J. J. Keane was one to be remembered. The Legion and service men were there in numbers to pay their respects to a service man they all admired. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 18, 1948)
