Elmer Pierson
Mention was made in last week’s Times of the death of Elmer Pierson, Estherville, formerly of Graettinger vicinity, who died Tuesday, February 24, 1942, at 5:20 a.m. He had been ill for some time. The funeral was held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic church, Estherville. The pastor, the Rev. Father J. J. Keane, officiated. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery. The pallbearers were John Bosold, Fred Kruse, Otis Paugh, Ed Carney, Ben Hassel, and John Irvin.

Elmer Pierson was born at Anathus, Missouri, October 28, 1874 [per cemetery records, 1873]. His boyhood years were spent in Missouri. On February 15, 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Rose Luke. The ceremony was performed at Carroll, Iowa. Following their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Pierson resided in Sac county and later in Palo Alto county before moving to Emmet county where they purchased a farm. They continued on the farm until failing health of Mr. Pierson made it necessary for the family to move to Estherville. Deceased is survived by his widow and by two sons, Lawrence W., Estherville, and Glenn L., Chicago. There are three grandchildren. He is also survived by several brothers and sisters.

Graettinger friends learned with sorrow of the death of Mr. Pierson. During the years he resided in this community he made many friends and was regarded as an ideal neighbor. He was a loving, devoted husband and father. He was a sincere Christian gentleman. Old friends in Graettinger and vicinity join the Times in expressing sincere sympathy to Mrs. Pierson and sons and to the other relatives in their sorrow.
