Eugene Kriebs, R.I. Engineer, Dies at Local Hospital
Eugene Kriebs, an engineer on the Rock Island Ry. passed away last Tuesday [June 4, 1940] during the noon hour at the Coleman hospital. Mr. Kriebs had been confined to the hospital for some time. He had a heart ailment which caused him trouble. For several years he had been in failing health but not until recently has his condition been serious.Mr. Kriebs had been a faithful employee of the Rock Island for many years. In 1936 he was compelled to retire from service on account of illness.
Mr. Kriebs was a very fine gentleman. He was of a temperament that he made friends with those he came in contact with. He was always pleasant and agreeable to those around him.
He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Nick Koenecke of this city, Mrs. Ed Kirchner of Dunnell, Minn., another sister, living in Sherburn, Minn., a niece, Margaret of Estherville, and a nephew, Francis Koenecke of Estherville.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 o’clock Friday a.m. at St. Patrick’s church. Burial will be made in the St. Patrick’s cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 6, 1940)
