Passed Away Last Friday
Mrs. Katy Miller
Aged 101 Years, 3 Months, 17 Days
Mrs. Katy Miller, mother of Mrs. Peter Kriebs, residing seven miles north of Estherville, passed away at 5:30 Friday morning, March 5th, after an illness of several weeks. Deceased was born at Littenburg, Germany, on October 18, 1824, and spent the first eighteen years of her life in that country. In 1843 she accompanied her parents to New York and they were fourteen weeks coming across the water. They established their home at Williamsburg, New York, which at that time was thought to be in the west. She was later married to P. A. Miller and they moved to Blue Island, Ill., to reside. Her husband passed away at Blue Island and eleven years ago she came here to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Peter Kriebs, her only child. A year ago last October seventy-one relatives of the Kriebs family gathered at the Kriebs home and celebrated her one hundredth birthday. At that time she was in excellent health but the past few months her health commenced to fail and she gradually grew weaker until she passed away Friday. During her late sickness she had the best care that could be given her and she died of old age. Mrs. Miller was a good Christian woman, and a member of the Catholic church. Her remains were taken on the evening train to Blue Island, Ill., where she will rest beside the body of her husband who passed away many years ago. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Kriebs, a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren are left to mourn her death. Friends of the relatives will hasten to extend to them their deepest sympathy. To life a life of over a century is something uncommon, but Mrs. Miller enjoyed every minute of her life. Those who knew her say she was always of a happy disposition and attributed her long life to the fact that she always worked and took care of herself. May she rest in peace. The remains were taken to Blue Island by Mrs. Peter Kriebs and her two sons, Robert Kriebs and Nick Koenecke. Funeral service was held there Monday afternoon. Mrs. C. Miller Passes Away at Age of 101
Mrs. Catherine Miller passed away last Friday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Peter Kriebs, residing near Huntington. Mrs. Miller was probably our oldest citizen at the time of her death. She had reached the age of one hundred and one years, four months and seventeen days when she passed from this life.

When she was one hundred, members of the family came from all over this section of the country to assist her in celebrating her one hundredth birthday. She was in excellent health at that time and it was a great day for her as well as for the family. The fact is that she has kept her health well until the last.

Mrs. Miller was born in Gutenberg, Germany, on the eighteenth day of October, 1824. She moved to this country when she was eighteen years of age and resided at Williamsburg, N.Y., and after her marriage to P. A. Miller, she moved to Illinois. About eleven years ago she came to this country to reside with her daughter and since coming here she has always been able to get about and do some work. She being a very active woman. She was greatly beloved by all who knew her as she was kind and considerate to all.

The services were held from the home, the Rev. Conway officiating and the remains were shipped to Blue Island, Ill., where they were laid to rest.

It seems wonderful to think of a woman of this age. One can hardly realize the development of our great country since the time of her birth. Without a close study of one’s history it would be difficult to realize just what vast improvements along all lines have been made since that time. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 10, 1926)

Mrs. Peter Kriebs returned Saturday morning from Blue Island, Ill., where she accompanied the remains of her mother, Mrs. Katy Miller, for burial. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 17, 1926)

The W. J. Koenecke family of Madelia, Minn., who were called here by the death of Mrs. Katy Miller, left Saturday evening for Dows where they will visit before returning to their home in Madelia. They have been guests at the Peter Kriebs home near Huntington during their stay here. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, March 24, 1926)
