Mrs. Eugenia Kriebs Dead
Mrs. Eugenia Kriebs passed away at the home of her daughter on Wednesday, January 12. She had been a resident of this county for the past twenty-two years and had many close friends here. Mrs. Kriebs was born in Belgium on May 23, 1839 and came to this country when a girl. The funeral services were held Saturday and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery south of this city. Eugenie Fumal was born in Honnot, Belgium, May 23, 1839 and died Jan. 12, 1921, at 9:30 a.m. at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nick Koenecke, at the age of 81 years,7 months and 20 days. She grew to womanhood in her native land and was married to John Kriebs in Luxemberg in 1861. To this union were born twelve children, three of whom preceded her in death, also her husband who died in 1913.During the years 1885 together with her husband and children, Mrs. Kriebs came to America to make her home and settled on a farm at St. Charles, Minn. where they resided until 1898, when they came to Emmet County and has resided here ever since.
Mrs. Kriebs was a patient sufferer for three years never complaining. She was ever a kind and devoted mother and loved by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn her loss nine children, six sons and three daughters, namely Joseph of St. Paul, Peter of Huntington, A. N. of Hackensack, Minn., J. F. of Inverness, Mont., E. M. of Hot Springs, Ark., J. E. of Marshall, Minn., and Mrs. Matt Clemens of Sherburn, Minn., and Mrs. Nick Koenecke and Mrs. Ed. Kirchner of Huntington. Sixteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Catholic church Saturday morning conducted by Father Conway and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery beside those of her husband. Services Tomorrow for E.M. Kriebs
Requiem high mass will be said for Eugene [Eugenia] M. Kriebs Friday morning at 9:30 at the St. Patrick’s Parish church by the local priest Father Keane. Because of the summer school now in session the hour of saying the mass had to be changed. The Rosary will be said at the Mahlum & Anderson funeral chapel this (Thursday) evening at 9:300 o’clock. Burial will be made in the St. Patrick’s Parish cemetery.Pallbearers will be Matt Scholtes, Joe Paul, Francis Kennedy, John Koster, Melvin Whitish and Ed. Donovan.
