Estherville – Funeral services for Francis J. Koenecke, 62, Estherville, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Estherville, with Father A. O. Grendler officiating and burial at the church cemetery. Military graveside rites will be held. He died at his home Saturday [March 22, 1975] afternoon.Mr. Koenecke was born April 28, 1912, in Estherville to Mr. and Mrs. Nick Koenecke and received his education in the Gruver schools and was a graduate of the Estherville schools. He was married to Pauline Bassett Feb. 24, 1941, in Estherville. He served as manager of a lumber company for a number of years before forming K and S Lumber Co. in 1961.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, was a fourth degree knight, Elks, Rotary, VFW and American Legion. He had served with the Navy in the Pacific during WWII.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Mike, Spirit Lake; one daughter, Mrs. Merlin (Mary) Nelson, St. Paul; one grandson; and one sister, Mrs. Robert Phillips, Swanton, Ohio.
Mr. Koenecke was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
A rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Monday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 24, 1975)
