Catherine Kiefer the daughter of James and Rose Ellen (Hannan) Connolly was born March 7, 1922 in Elma, Iowa and departed this life on Friday, May 25, 2007 at Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona, Iowa at the age of 85.

She received her education in Elma, Iowa schools. Following high school, she attended Mercy College of Nursing in Mason City. Catherine then served in the Army Corps of nurses during World War II and she also served at Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Colorado. Catherine also worked as a nurse in Minneapolis.

On October 22, 1949, Catherine was united in marriage to Raymond Kiefer at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Elma, Iowa. The couple then made their home in Estherville, where they spent their entire life. While in Estherville, Catherine worked for Holy Family Hospital, Dr. Johnson's Office and for 20 years she was employed at Estherville Good Samaritan Center. Raymond died in 1997.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary in Estherville. For hobbies, Catherine enjoyed reading, crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren.

Left to cherish Catherine's memory are her children, Tom Kiefer and his wife, Michele of Omaha, Nebraska; Frances Ann Bollinger and her husband, Keith of Algona, Iowa; Mary Alice Sawaya and her husband, Ramsay of Denver, Colorado; Joe Kiefer and his wife, Lisa of Estherville; seven grandchildren; and one sister, Dolores Irvin of Riceville, Iowa.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister and two brothers.
