Heart Attack Fatal to Mrs. Pannell
Ringsted – Mrs. J. W. (Emma) Pannell, 84, died yesterday about noon of a heart attack while sewing at her home in Ringsted. Mrs. Emma Johnson found Mrs. Pannell about 4:30 p.m. yesterday still seated at her sewing machine.Mrs. Pannell was born June 2, 1878, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry D. Koenecke, in Chicago, Ill. When she was five years old she moved with her family to a farm just across the state line near Huntington.
She was married to J. W. Pannell on Oct. 28, 1902, in Estherville. Following their marriage they farmed in the Maple Hill and Gruver areas until 1914 and then moved to a farm in the Estherville area. Mr. Pannell died in August, 1941. In 1951 Mrs. Pannell moved to Seneca to make her home with her son, Richard. They moved to Ringsted in 1957. Richard Pannell is a junior high school instructor in Sentral school at Fenton.
Mrs. Pannell is survived by three sons, Richard of Ringsted, Harold of Hardy, Joe of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Ira (Ethel) Bloomquist, Luverne, Calif.; Mrs. Ray (Margaret) Bliss, Ames; and Mrs. Fredrick (Dorothy) Coon, Los Angeles. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, Maurice, who died in 1959, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Ringsted Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Robert Gruber officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Thomas Funeral Home in Ringsted from Sunday and until time of service on Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 20, 1963)
