Death at 97 for Lungren
Charles J. Lungren, 97, a native of Sweden and an Estherville resident since 1911, died yesterday at 8:25 p.m. a Holy Family Hospital. Death was attributed to complications of advanced age.

Born Feb. 10, 1869, in Sweden to Mr. and Mrs. Charles J. Lungren, Charles Lungren came to the United States with his parents at age 12.

The family first settled in Illinois and moved to Webster County four years later, where Mr. Lungren and his father farmed, until he married Anna Peterson of Otho Dec. 18, 1895, in Fort Dodge.

Mr. Lungren then purchased the farm, and he and his wife farmed in Webster County until 1910, when they moved to Valley Junction and lived there until 1911, when they settled in Estherville.

Mr. Lungren was in the lumber business at the site of the Joyce Lumber Co. until 1913, when he sold his company, and he and his wife moved to a farm between Estherville and Terril. In 1937 the Lungrens retired from the farm and moved back to Estherville.

For the following 10 years, Mr. Lungren worked as a janitor at the First Presbyterian Church, the Iowa Trust and Savings Bank, and the Emmet County court house.

Mrs. Lungren died July 3, 1956, and Mr. Lungren lived alone in their house until December, 1964, when he moved to the Good Samaritan Center.

Mr. Lungren is survived by two sons, Paul and Oscar, both of Estherville; five grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, Reuben, in 1957, his parents and two sisters.

Funeral services are scheduled Monday at 2 p.m. at the Union Baptist Church, Rev. Rawlin Johnson officiating. Family services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at the Fuhrman Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 o’clock tonight until noon Monday when the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of services.

Pallbearers will be Harold Danielson, Leonard Bendixen, Meril Billings, Max Soeth, Grant H. Croner, and Robert Stump. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 6, 1966)
