Elmer Jackson Dies Early This Morning
Elmer Jackson, 65, retired Rock Island railroad engineer, died 3:40 a.m. today in Holy Family hospital. Death was attributed to a cancer from which he had been suffering for about two months.

The deceased had worked for the Rock Island for 28 years as engineer and spent most of his life in Estherville. His father, Charles, also was a Rock Island railroad engineer.

He was born Aug. 8, 1884, in Albert Lea, and received his education there. He moved early in life to Estherville, and except for short periods of time spent in Albert Lea and in Sioux Falls, has spent all of his life here.

On Feb. 24, 1917, he was married to Mae Eisenhower, of Seney, Ia., and the couple established a home in Estherville. He was a member of the Methodist church and of the Brotherhood of railroad engineers.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert Jackson of Dallas, Tex.; and Charles, a student at Iowa State college at Ames; a daughter, Mrs. John Wescott of Ypsilanti, Mich.; one brother, Leonard Jackson at Austin, Minn., a step mother, Mrs. Mae Jackson of LaCrosse, Wis., and four grandchildren.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Estherville Methodist church with the Rev. John E. DeLong officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 28, 1949)
