Earl Hyer Dies; Rites on Monday
Earl John Hyer, 68, died yesterday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital. The cause of death was attributed to complications. He had been hospitalized since Dec. 22.

Hyer was born Dec. 17, 1894, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Hyer, in Marion County. He moved with his family to the Mable Hill area in 1904 and later in 1911 to a farm near Huntington. He received his education in rural Emmet County schools.

Hyer, a bachelor, farmed with his brother, Ernest Hyer, for 20 years near Huntington. In 1946 he went to work for Emmet County where he was employed until his retirement in 1956. Hyer was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by three brothers, Ernest Hyer, Estherville; Paul and Raymond Hyer, both of Huntington, and one sister, Mrs. Lee Shultz, Gruver. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday at the Huntington Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Ortmeyer officiating. Family services will precede the public services at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist Church.

Friends may call at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home from 9 a.m. Sunday and until 10:30 a.m. Monday at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until the time of service. The casket will not be opened after the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 28, 1962)
