Last Rites For Mrs. Hornby Held This Week
Ida Hasbrook was born at Sheffield, Illinois, January 22, 1880. There she spent her childhood and young womanhood and received her education. On December 12, 1900, she was married to Harry Hornby at Princeton, Illinois. Shortly after their marriage the young couple came to Emmet County, Iowa and have lived in this vicinity for over forty-five years, where they formed many lasting friendships.
Mrs. Hornby was rather frail and knew many lonely hours of weakness, but her mind and spirit were active and vigorous, and her soul was sensitive and alert to the deeper aspects of life about her and on beyond. Fourteen years ago she said a temporary farewell to her son Ralph, but now has gone to join him.
She missed the church services during these recent years, for she was deeply religious, but she made of her heart, a shrine.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Hornby, two daughters, Mrs. J. P. Christensen of Estherville and Mrs. H. C. Munson of Washington, D.C., a son, Earl Hornby of Estherville, and four grandchildren, Donald and Lorraine Christensen and Jackie and Marian Munson. Mrs. Munson was unable to attend these services because her husband, Col. H. C. Munson, is leaving soon for Russia, piloting General Marshall to the Conference.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Henry Myers of Storm Lake; three brothers, Walter, Fred and Ora Hasbook of Superior; three half-brothers, Charles, George and Everett Hasbrook of Prophetstown, Illinois; and two half-sisters, Mrs. Frank Broers of Walnut, Illinois, and Sarah Hasbrook of Prophetstown, Illinois.
Pallbearers were George Swanson, George Frank, Ed. Ahrens, William Clark, George West and Howard Heywood. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 6, 1947)
Mr. and Mrs. Roy Roff attended the funeral last Sunday [March 2, 1947] of Mrs. Harley [Harry] Hornby last Sunday of Mrs. Harley Hornby of Estherville.
