Obituary – Hornby
Francis Hornby was born at Big Rock, Kane county, Illinois, January 21, 1847, and died at his home near Estherville January 28 [18], 1915, being within three days of his 68th birthday.

When a small boy he came with his parents to their homestead three miles northeast of Sheffield, Illinois. Here he grew to manhood and then carried for his aged parents. He enlisted in the 64th Illinois volunteers and served a year and a half during the Civil war.

In 1876 he was married to Eveline Harrison. To them were born nine children. One son died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Mable Wagner passed away last October. In 1896 they moved to a farm near Estherville. Here they made a good home and here their children grew to manhood and womanhood and from here they have gone out to make homes for themselves with the exception of the youngest son, Burton, who has been with his parents. The children were all present with their mother when their father died. They are engaged in farming. Sleisinger at Ada, Minn.; Mrs. Boyd Higley at Estherville. There are nineteen grandchildren.

Frank Hornby was one of those stalwart characters who love honest toil and whose hand is every ready to extend kindness. His death was due to enlargement of the liver and cancerous growth between the liver and stomach. Mrs. Hornby will continue to reside at the home near Estherville. Frank Hornby Passes Away
After a sickness of three weeks, Frank Hornby, who for seventeen years has been a respected citizen of this community passed away at his home last Monday at the age of sixty-eight years. Funeral services were held from the houses today at twelve o’clock. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, January 20, 1915)
