Rites of Mrs. Holmquist to be Tomorrow
Services for Mrs. Matilda [Mathilda] Holmquist will be held 2 p.m. tomorrow at Estherville Episcopal church, the Rev. Edwin Bowyer officiating. Preceding the public service, a family service will be held 1:30 p.m. at Sandin funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. Friends who wish to pay their last respects may do so by calling at the Sandin funeral home any time before the services.

Mrs. Holmquist died 2 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family hospital, death coming as a result of complications which developed following a gall bladder operation. She had been ill about a month.

She was born Matilda [Mathilda] Johnson, March 30, 1883, in Keokuk and as a child came to Estherville with her parents. She received her education in the Estherville public schools.

Early in life she was married to Charles J. Holmquist of Estherville. Shortly after marriage, the couple moved to Cedar Rapids where Mr. Holmquist was associated for many years with the Syndicate Clothing company. After the death of her husband in 1945, she continued living in Cedar Rapids until about a year ago when she moved to Estherville to make her home with her sister, Mrs. George Bale, sr.

Survivors include Mrs. Bale and a nephew, George Bale, jr. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 17, 1949)

Mrs. Charles Holmquist
Word has been received of the death of Mrs. Charles Holmquist at Estherville Friday afternoon. Resident of Cedar Rapids many years, she had moved to Estherville a hear and a half ago. In Cedar Rapids she was employed in the office at Al’s Furniture Company and in the Linn County Abstract Company.

Surviving is a sister, Mrs. Lucy Bale of Estherville.

Services will be held in Estherville at 2 p.m. Sunday. (Cedar Rapids Gazette, Cedar Rapids, IA, September 17, 1949)
