Mrs. William Heidke Sr. Dies at 78
Mrs. William A. Heidke, Sr., pioneer resident of Estherville, died at 2 p.m. yesterday at Holy Family hospital, where she had been in ill health for the past six months. She was 78.

Mrs. Heidke was born April 26, 1875, in Grundy county and was reared in that area. On June 4, 1895, she married William A. Heidke at Cedar Falls. Her maiden name was Carrie Peterson.

She came as a bride to Estherville in 1895 and has lived here ever since. Her husband, who preceded her in death in November, 1935, worked as water service foreman for the Rock Island railroad.

She was a past matron of the Eastern Star and was affiliated with the Presbyterian church.

Surviving her death are two sons, Howard of Estherville and William at Scott Field, Belleville, Ill.; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Ellwood and Mrs. E. J. (Esther) Story, both of Estherville; six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Preceding her in death are her husband and two brothers [sons], John who died in infancy in 1911 and Chester who died in 1920.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Sandin Funeral, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. Friends may call this evening and until time of services at the Funeral home. The casket will not be open during and after the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1954)
