W. A. Heidke Buried Wed. in Oak Hill Cemetery
W. A. Heidke, one of Estherville’s long time citizens and one of its most highly respected men passed away at the Birney hospital last Sunday [October 27, 1935] after a long illness and confinement in the hospital.Mr. Heidke has been for many years in the employ of the Rock Island railway in the water supply department. He has been one of the faithful and trusted employees, always attending to business and always looking after the interests of his employer.
He was a man of excellent character. One who always looked to the interests of those around him and always considerate of others in every way.
We lived for years beside Mr. Heidke and there was never a better neighbor nor a finer gentleman in every way.
He was severely injured while on duty on the Rock Island and from this injury he never recovered. For the past few months he has been in the Birney hospital where he had every care but was not able to overcome the effects of his accident. In the early days he was in the employ of the old B.C.R. & N. which makes him one of the old pioneer railroad men of this section.
Services were held from the home on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church with Rev. Arthur G. Bailey officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 6, 1935)
John G. Heidke of Columbus, Wis., was in this city Tuesday to attend the funeral services of his brother, W. A. Heidke, He left for his home today. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 6, 1935)
