Houts Rites To Be Held Wednesday
Funeral services for Ernest Maurice Houts, 81, who died just before noon Saturday [August 18, 1962] at Holy Family Hospital, are scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home here and Oak Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Denzil Neumann will officiate.

In poor health for five years, Mr. Houts died of complications of old age. He was employed by the Rock Island railroad here for 46 years prior to his retirement.

Mr. Houts came to Estherville as a boy with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Houts. He was married her Aug. 30, 1909 to Fannie Nourse, who died in 1916. He was a member of the Union Baptist Church.

Two daughters and two sons survive: Mrs. Lorraine Chaney, Greensboro, N.C.; Mrs. Charles (Thelma) Baker of Estherville; Kelton of Sioux City; and Maurice of Sturbridge, Mass. There are 20 grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother, E. A. Houts of Mason City, and one sister, Mrs. R. W. Davis of Parkville, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and one brother.

The body will lie in state in the Sternborg-Reese Home from 6 p.m. today until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 20, 1962)
