Hansen Obituary
Mrs. Anna Hansen nee Johnson was born in Norway March 1, 1842. At the age of 18 she emigrated to America going first to Illinois. Later she went to Emmetsburg where she was united in marriage to Peter C. Hansen. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Estherville where they settled on a farm west of town in 1870. Three children were born to them, Mrs. Clara Frizell, Mrs. Mattie Lankin and Henry Hansen of Estherville, IA.Mrs. Hansen has been bedfast due to the infirmities of her advanced years for the last two years. During the last two weeks she failed rapidly and passed away Monday, June 5th at 9 o’clock in the evening at the ripe old age of 97 years, 3 months, one day.
Besides the above mentioned children she leaves to mourn her departure six grandchildren, Donald, Richard and James Hansen of Estherille, Mrs. Harold Weigand, Spirit Lake, Iowa and Lois Lankin and one great granddaughter, Donna Hansen. Also one niece, Mrs. Andrew Lande and two nephews, Charles Martinson and Olaf Martinson.
The funeral was held Wednesday, June 7 at 2:30 from the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clars Firzell, where she spent the last years of her life and 3:00 o’clock from the Estherville Lutheran church, Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. The pall bearers were: Ed Swanson, Charley Reid, M. C. Peterson, Paul Linkey, Wm. Sweet and Wm. Deming. Interment was made at the Oak Hill cemetery. Songs were rendered at the service by Carola Mathre and Josephine Handeland, Mrs. Lloyd Handeland accompanying. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, June 8, 1939)

Mrs. Anna Hansen, 97, at Home of Daughter Last Night; Came to Emmet County in 1870
Mrs. Anna Hansen, 97, widow of Peter C. Hansen, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Clara Frizzell at 9 p.m. last night after a long illness incident to one of her advanced years. Mr. Hansen passed away 21 years ago. Another daughter, Mrs. Mattie Lankin, assisted in the mother’s care during the past few years.Born in 1842 in Norway, Mrs. Hansen came to the United States when 18 years old. She lived first in Illinois then came to Emmetsburg where she was married in 1870 and came to Estherville. Mr. and Mrs. Hansen lived on the road known as the “winding hill” southwest of Estherville farmed by their only son Henry.
Left to mourn the aged and beloved woman’s passing are the three children, six grandchildren, Donald, Robert, Richard and James Hansen, Mrs. Harold Weigand and Lois Lankin, also one great grandchild, Donna Hansen.
Funeral Tomorrow
Funeral services will be held tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the home on East Central and at 3 p.m. from the Estherville Lutheran church. Rev. L. A. Mathre will be in charge.Pall bearers will be Ed Swanson, Charley Reed, M. C. Peterson, Paul Linke, W. V. Sweet and W. E. Deming. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 6, 1939)
