P. C. Hansen Died Saturday Morning
Well Known Resident Passed Away at Excelsior Springs, Missouri, April 13th
Word reached this city last Saturday morning of the death of P. C. Hansen, an old time resident of this city, who died at Excelsior Springs, Mo., on that date after an illness extending over several years. For many years Mr. Hansen was a resident of this county, moving with his parents on a farm in High Lake township. He was known and respected by almost every one as a true Christian man, a good neighbor and friend, always ready to come to the aid of anyone’s affliction or distress. His loss will be felt most keenly among the old time neighbors and friends, with whom he associated so many years.

For several years Mr. Hansen has been in poor health, spending the winters at Excelsior Springs and returning to this city during the summer months, where he always kept a beautiful home in readiness for himself and daughter. He had been feeling as well as usual until just a short time before his death, which came as a shock to his friends and loved ones. The body arrived in this city Monday afternoon and funeral services are being held from the home this afternoon.

Peter Christian Hansen was born on December 29, 1847, in Denmark, coming to this country as a young man with his parents. The family came at once to Iowa and it was just a few years later that they moved to this county which has continued as the home of the deceased until the time of his death. He was married on March 27, 1877 to Miss Anna Johnson in High Lake township. To this union three children were born, H. H. of Estherville, Miss Clara of Estherville and Mrs. Frank Larkin of Chicago. The wife and mother preceded him to the better land some years ago.

Mr. Hansen was a member of the Lutheran church having been baptized in that faith at the old home in Denmark. He always encouraged his family in the attending of church services. He was a kind and loving father and his memory will ever serve as an inspiration to the children as they go about the daily duties of life. Estherville mourns for P. C. Hansen, but the thought that he is past all earthly pain and suffering, that he is safe on that other shore, united with the loved ones gone before, serve but to remind us that all are born into this world to die. He is better off and enjoying the reward of a life of service. The bereaved children have the sympathy of the entire community. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, April 17, 1918)
