Gilbert Flindt, A Pioneer, Passed Away Last Sunday
Death came suddenly and unexpectedly to Gilbert Flindt last Sunday [April 25, 1937] morning. He had been in poor health for some time past but not until Thursday was he considered seriously ill. A sudden heart attack on Sunday morning caused death.

“Gib” Flindt, as he has been known since boyhood, was a popular fellow among the railway boys where he was employed since boyhood on the Rock Island Railway. He was as a boy and young man very strong and rugged and has always seemed to be in that condition until he became afflicted with Bright’s disease which brought on other complications. We have personally been acquainted with “Gib” since about the first day he came to Estherville. He was always a plain outspoken man who did his own thinking. However, he was a friend to his friends and of the kind that lasted.

Mr. Flindt was born at Steamboat Rock Jan 13, 1877. At the age of 12 he moved with his parents to Estherville. He attended the public schools here and later affiliated himself with the Rock Island as a brakeman and on retirement was a conductor.

The funeral services were held from the Mahlum and Anderson chapel at two o’clock on Wednesday afternoon, the Rev. Fred D. Sawyer officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.

The deceased is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. James Stephens of this city and Miss Ella Flindt of Des Moines. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 29, 1937)
