Another Home is In Sadness
Most Estimable Lady Called to Her Reward After a Brief Illness
Mrs. A. R. Espeset the Victim
Another Home is in Sadness Caused by the Ruthless Hand of Mankind’s Enemy, Death
Mrs. Arnt R. Espeset died at her home, southeast of this city, on Wednesday last. She had been ill but a short time and while her condition was considered serious it was not thought until near the end that her death was close at hand.

Mrs. Espeset was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Hager, and came here with her parents six years ago from Magnolia, Ill., the place of her birth. On Nov. 30, 1911, she was united in marriage to Arnt R. Espeset, one of Emmet county’s prosperous young farmers. The deceased leaves a husband, father and mother, one brother and three sisters to mourn her untimely death.

The funeral services were held on Monday from the home at 12 o’clock, and from the Lutheran church at 2:00 o’clock, the Rev. Akre officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery, on the west side of the river.

The deceased was always an active member of the Norwegian Lutheran church and was a good Christian woman and a loving helpmate to her husband. She was exceedingly fond of home and was alert and watchful, not only of her own home, but that of her parents, who resided near her. Her constant aim, seemingly, was to be of use and helpful to all and especially to her beloved mother. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 16, 1914)

Mrs. A. R. Espeset Dead
Community Shocked of Untimely Death of Prominent Lady
A Strange Premonition
Told of Own Funeral Scenes Before Death and While in Perfect Health
Last Friday morning the Good Shepherd issued a summons which was obeyed and our friend and fellow citizen, A. R. Espeset now mourns the loss of his beloved wife, and one of our respected families has been bereft of a loving and dutiful daughter and sister.

Hanna Hager, Espeset, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Hager, was born at Magnolia, Ill., January 21st, 1882 and came to Emmet county with her parents in 1908. She was united in marriage to A. R. Espeset November 30th, 1911. She died from blood poisoning, having been ill but a very short time. Funeral services were held at the home, four and one half miles east of Estherville at twelve o’clock noon Monday and from the local Norwegian Lutheran church at two o’clock, both services being in charge of Rev. Akre. In addition to the husband and parents one brother and three sisters are left to mourn her loss. The deceased was a member of the Norwegian church and was brought up in this faith and during her life was an active church and social worker and was respected and loved by all who knew her.

A curious and unusual occurrence attended the passing of this good woman and an occurrence which should afford food for reflection to the thinking mind as it gives us in a vague, indistinct manner a glimmering of something mysterious and unexplainable by natural means, intangible and savoring strongly of the workings of laws with which the mind of man is totally incapable of coping. Just a few days before her death, and while enjoying her usual good health and spirits, Mrs. Espeset told her family of a curious dream she had experienced the previous night. It seemed to her that she was attending a funeral and then it came to her that the funeral was her own, she recognized her body in the coffin, heard the minister preaching the funeral services, saw the beautiful flowers and heard the music and finally took notice of her grieving friends and relatives in attendance at the funeral. The dream was all so real and so deeply impressed her that she related it the following day and considered it a most unusual experience, and now that she is dead her folks have related this incident to the astonishment and mystification of the community.

Heartfelt sympathy is extended by all, at this time, to the bereaved husband and family. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, December 16, 1914)

Mother Gives Life For Child
Mrs. Arthur Espeset Was Called to Heavenly Home Friday
After passing through an ordeal that is a woman’s sacred mission to undergo, Mrs. Arthur [Arnt] Espeset was called to her heavenly home Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock. Her death came as a sad blow to her relatives and hosts of friends for she was a loving Christian woman who deemed it her pleasant duty to lighten the burdens of all around her. She was loved by all her friends and her death will leave an aching void in the hearts of her loved ones.

Hannah Hager was born in Magnolia, Illinois in 1882 and lived with her parents, Mrs. and Mrs. August Hager, until five years ago when they moved to a farm four and one-half miles southeast of Estherville. She was united in marriage to Arthur R. Espeset on Thanksgiving Day, November 30, 1911. They have lived on a farm southeast of Estherville since then. She died at the age of 32 years. Those left to mourn her sad demise are her husband, father, mother, one brother and three sisters.

The funeral services were held from the home Monday noon and from the Norwegian Lutheran church at 2 o’clock. Rev. J. J. Akre preached a beautiful sermon. The remains were laid to rest with her infant child in Oak Hill cemetery.

Those present from out of town were Chas. Larson, a step brother of Mr. Espeset’s from Minnesota, Mrs. Chas. Wendage of Duluth, Minnesota, and Mr. and Mrs. Hill from Illinois. Mrs. Hill is a sister of the deceased. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 16, 1914)
