Death Takes Sherman L. Elwood, 93
Sherman Floyd Elwood, 93, Estherville, died about 9:20 a.m. Sunday [June 18, 1967] at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carl Walz, where he had made his home the past 26 years.

His death was attributed to a heart attack. He had been in failing health the past three months.

He was born April 3, 1874, Marion County, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Amos Elwood and received his education in Marion County schools. He was married Nov. 4, 1893 to Rebecca Reardon in Emmet County.

She died in 1894. On Dec. 25, 1900 he married Myrtle Davis at Boyden, Iowa. She died in 1942.

He moved to Emmet County with his parents in 1889 and in 1903 moved to Sedan, Minn., where he lived until 1908, moving at that time to Lakota, N.D., and in 1910 moved to a homestead in Montana, returning to Estherville, 1941.

He farmed and did plastering work his entire adult life. He was a member of First Methodist Church of Estherville.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Carl Walz and Mrs. George Carr, both of Estherville. Also two grandsons, one great-grandson; eight step grandchildren, 20 step grandchildren; one step great-great-grandchild.

Also two sisters, Mrs. C. B. Hoyt, Glenwood, Minn., and Mrs. E. O. Lewis, Portland, Ore. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, four sons, three brothers and three sisters.

Family services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Methodist Church followed by public services at 2 p.m., Rev. C. R Buckwalter, officiating.

Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, from 9 a.m. Tuesday till noon Wednesday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 19, 1967)
