Leland Ellison Dies at Home in Rockford
Leland Ellison of Rockford, Ill., son of Mrs. Anna Ellison of Estherville, died Friday afternoon at 4 p.m., following a heart attack. Ellison had been ill from heart trouble for a short time but had appeared to be improved.Leland Ellison was born July 19, 1912, at Wallingford and attended the schools at Estherville. Following the completion of his education he became a salesman, a position he held for the past three years while living in Rockford.
Ellison was married Feb. 28, 1942, to Claire Vacura of Jackson, Minn. The couple has no children.
Ellison is survived by his widow, his mother, Mrs. Anna Ellison of Estherville, a sister, Mrs. Robert Beatty of Estherville, and two brothers, Corp. Robert L. Ellison who recently returned from overseas duty and at present is stationed in Great Lakes, Ill., and Pfc. Romaine Ellison who is stationed overseas. Corporal Ellison and Mrs. Leland Ellison arrived in Estherville Sunday. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 25, 1945)

Leland O. Ellison was born July 19, 1912, at Wallingford and died in Rockford, Ill., Jan. 19, 1945, at the age of 32 years and six months.When he was 11 years of age the Ellison family moved to Estherville where he lived until 1942. He was united in marriage to Miss Clara Vacura of Jackson, Minn., Feb. 28, 1942, at Kirkville, Mo., moving to Rockford where he remained until his death.
Ellison is survived by his widow, mother, Mrs. Anna Ellison of Estherville, sister, Mrs. Robert Beatty of Estherville and two brothers, Corp. Robert Ellison and Pfc. A.R. Ellison of the United States marines.
Funeral services were held Jan. 24 at the home of Mrs. Ellison, 1015 2nd Ave. N. in Estherville at 1:30 p.m. and at the Baptist church at 2 p.m. Burial was in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 1, 1945)
