Illness Fatal to Ellerston
Former Resident, Father of Supervisor E. I. Ellerston, Passes at Coleman Hospital Today
Edward H. Ellerston, 71, more familiarly known to his friends as “Bally” passed away at the Coleman hospital at about 12:30 a.m. today after a long illness with cancer. Mr. Ellerston, who for several years had farmed at Balaton, Minn., recently went to Rochester where the seriousness of his condition was found and in July he was brought to the hospital here. His son Irving has been with him almost continuously during his last illness and two of his daughters were able to be at his bedside.

Mr. Ellerston was one of Emmet county’s most substantial farmers, owning and operating a farm north of Estherville now occupied by his son until about 15 years ago when the move to Minnesota was made. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on Dec. 14, 1868, son of Christian and Jennie (Jensen) Ellerston natives of Norway. At that time his father was captain of a commission boat on Lake Michigan but the family later moved to Norway, Iowa, where he owned and operated a flour mill. Edward grew to young manhood there and was married in 1893 to Miss Mary Johnson of that town.

Mrs. Jennie Ellerston, widowed in 1890, moved to Estherville and her son Edward became a farmer of this community.

Surviving are one son E.I. Ellerston, Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Bell, Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. N. A. Endicott, Dallas, Texas; Mrs. Frederick Graaf, Inglewood, Calif., one brother, Chris Ellerston of Jack Creek township; two sisters, Mrs. M. H. Schloeman, Estherville; Mrs. H. H. Hartung, Eugene, Oregon and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel at 2 p.m. Friday in charge of Rev. A. L. Schrock, vicar of Grace Episcopal church. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 8, 1940)
