Riley Elwood Died Suddenly at Iowa City Hospital
Funeral services for Riley Elwood, who died suddenly Friday [May 11, 1934] night, were held Monday at the Methodist church, the Rev. F. W. Ortmeyer in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mr. Elwood died in a hospital at Iowa City where he had been taken for treatment of an enlarged spleen. He was born in Emmetsburg and lived there until he moved here twelve years ago.

He is survived by his wife, his mother, seven sons, Fred, Frank, Orlin, Lloyd, Harold, Eldon and Kenneth, two daughters, Marian and Alice, one sister, Mrs. Carl Walz, and three brothers, Fred, Cash and Alpha.

Ed Hubbard, Otto Klein, Grover Hoffman, Everett Shull, Leonard Smith and Levi Minks acted as pall bearers. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 16, 1934)

Riley Elwood Passes Friday at Hospital
Was 41 Years Old – Leaves Wife and Nine Children
Funeral services for Riley Elwood, 41, who passed away Friday at the University hospital in Iowa City, were held Monday afternoon at 2 o’clock at the house and 2:30 at the Methodist Episcopal church, the Rev F. W. Ortmeyer in charge. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery.

Price Elwood was born in Emmet county, July 22, 1892. In 1911 he was united in marriage to Miss Bessie Craven and to this union nine children were born all of whom are living at home.

Mr. Elwood moved to Estherville 12 years ago from Emmetsburg and has been an employee of the Rock Island railroad since that time. He has been ailing for the past four months and was taken to the University hospital a week ago Sunday.

He is survived by his wife and nine children, Fred, Frank, Orlin, Alice, Lloyd, Harold, Eldon, Marion and Kenneth, his mother, Mrs. Cora Reese, three brothers, Cassius of Spirit Lake, Fred of Estherville and Alpha of Des Moines and one sister, Mrs. Carl Walz of Estherville.

Pall bearers were Ed Hubbard, Otto Kline, Grover Huffman, Everett Shull, Leonard Smith and Levi Minks. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 15, 1934)
