Death of H. D. [Darwin] Cole
On Sunday [April 24, 1904] afternoon at two o’clock Mr. H. D. Cole passed away, death being caused by a stroke of paralysis.

Mr. Cole was sixty-three years of age and was born in Pennsylvania. For many years he had been a resident of Dickinson county. He is survived by his wife, three sons and three daughters.

The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon under the auspices of the Masonic fraternity. The services were held at the Methodist church in Estherville, Rev. Ginn being in charge. The burial was in the west side cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 27, 1904)

After receiving the fifth stroke of paralysis J. D. [H.D.] Cole of this city died Saturday at the age of 63. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon and the remains interred in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Deceased leaves a wife [Diana Hoag Cole], five children and two brothers. Dr. Cole of Britt, a brother of the late H.D. Cole arrived here Monday. Two other brothers from Nebraska came yesterday. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 27, 1904)
