Edward Cole Dies at 71
Services to Be Held Sunday
Edward C. Cole, 71, retired Rock Island railroad engineer of Estherville, died at Holy Family hospital this morning about 1 o’clock after an extended illness.

Cole had retired from the railroad about four years ago. He was a bachelor.

He was born March 18, 1879, in Ridott, Ill., and received his education at the public schools there. He came to Estherville in 1903, and was employed as an engineer for the Rock Island railroad until his retirement.

Cole was a member of the Elks and Masonic lodges and of the brotherhood of Railroad Engineers and a member of the Estherville Methodist church.

Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. Olive Flatt of Stanley, N.d., Charlotte Cole of Estherville, and Mrs. Maggie Barber of Benicia, Calif., a niece, Mrs. John P. Carlson, as well as several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Sunday at 2:30 p.m. in Sternborg funeral parlors, with the Rev. John E. DeLong officiating. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 26, 1950)
