Ray Brown Dies at 74 in Hospital
Ray H. Brown, 74, longtime resident of the Estherville area, died yesterday at 9:45 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks. Death was attributed to cancer and complications following a gall bladder operation.

He was born Jan. 4, 1892, at Sparta, Wis., the son of Willis F. and Ellen Brown. When 18 he moved to Emmet County.

He worked on farms, and carried a rural mail route, 1917-1918, before being inducted into the army and serving in World War I.

In 1920, he took a civil service examination and started to carry mail on rural route 2 in 1921. Mr. Brown also took the 1920 census in Center township.

He was married to Lillian Ringham Jan 14, 1922, at Jackson, Minn.

In 1940 he was transferred to route 3, which he carried until his retirement in October 1960.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife; two daughters, Patricia Brown and Mrs. M. F. (Dorothy) Barrett, both of Estherville; and one sister, Mrs. Jeffery (Mabel) Michelson of Spencer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. Howard Wakelin officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Sunday until time of services Monday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 22, 1966)
