Joe B. Brown Killed
Joe B. Brown was killed in an automobile accident near Jordan, Minnesota, Thursday evening. It seems Mr. Brown and another gentleman were driving to another town and when about two miles out of Jordan met a team on a high grade. The team passed all right, but when an attempt was made to start the auto it skidded to one side through the mud and went over the grade. Mr. Brown attempted to jump but was caught under the car and killed instantly, his neck being broken. The body was brought to the home of his mother, Mrs. O. J. Brown, in Estherville and his wife and children at Minneapolis notified of his death.

Funeral was held from the Baptist church in this city Monday afternoon and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Joe B. Brown was a son of Mrs. O. J. Brown and came to Emmet county with his parents in 1891. He was born at Brookville, Adams county, Iowa, and was thirty-eight years, six months and nineteen days of age at the time of his death. He was married November 16, 1898, to Emily C. Broadbridge at Spirit Lake, and to this union two sons and three daughters were born, one daughter died a few years ago. From the time he was married until two years ago he resided on one of the O.J. Brown farms south of town and was well known to all in this vicinity. Two years ago he secured a position as traveling salesman for the Appleton Manufacturing Company and moved to Minneapolis. He was a member of the Baptist church and a trustee of the Tabernacle Baptist church of Minneapolis. He was a member of the Woodman lodge at Wallingford and the members attended the funeral in a body.

Besides his aged mother, wife and four children, he leaves two brothers, H. O. Brown and Clarence Brown, and four sisters, Mrs. J. B. Yule, Mrs. Dean Williams, Mrs. O. O. Martin and Miss Carrie Brown, to mourn his death. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 11, 1911)
