Thomas W. Brown Dies at His Home
Bedfast for the past 8 ½ years, Thomas Wilbur Brown, 81, died Tuesday [June 26, 1962] afternoon at his home, 808 N. 4th St. Death was attributed to complications of a stroke.

He was employed here by the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad from 1923 until his retirement 11 years ago and had farmed at Sparta, Wis., prior to coming to Estherville.

Mr. Brown was born at Sparta March 12, 1881, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Brown. He attended Big Creek, Wis., and Terril schools.

On Nov. 23, 1904, he was married at Sparta to Maude Pierce, who survives her husband here. Other survivors include a son, Ora of Estherville; and four daughters: Mrs. Walter (Doris) Frick and Mrs. Ronald (Ruth) Rogers, both of Estherville; Mrs. Delbert (Vivian) Bretzman, Dunnell; and Mrs. Judd (Joyce) Nelson, St. Paul.

There are 23 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Two brothers, Ray of Estherville and Merritt of Elk River, Minn., and one sister, Mrs. Jeffrey Mickelson of Spencer, also survive.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.

A family funeral service is set for 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Sternborg-Reese Chapel, where a public service will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Lester Strubhar will conduct both ceremonies. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the service will be Elver Yule, Herman Wiese, Clyde Martin, E. C. Webber, Bryant Booth and Floyd Brandt. The casket will not be opened following the service.

Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese today and until time of services tomorrow. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 27, 1962)
