Pete H. Brown Ends His Life By Taking Poison Sunday A.M.
Pete H. Brown, who as far as known, came here from Chicago some 20 years ago, committed suicide by taking carbolic acid on Sunday morning. He was found about nine-thirty Sunday morning by Police Westbrook who had been summoned by Mrs. Rust.As near as can be ascertained Mr. Brown left his rooming place at Wm. Quinn’s home about seven o’clock that morning. About eight o’clock or a little after, he went into the Jay Johnston Drug Store and purchased two ounces of the acid. At a little after nine o’clock Mrs. Rust saw him sitting on the steps of the Champlain oil bulk station on the tracks at the end of Eighth Street.
She says she noticed he was sitting there very still and she did not see him move. After watching him a few minutes she phoned the police and Mr. Westbrook came down. On examination it was found he was dead.
Coroner Sternborg was notified and he took the remains to the funeral home for a time while an endeavor is made to locate his relatives.
Mr. Brown has worked about here for ten years. He is said to be a handy man on the farm and those who have employed him say he is a good worker. As far as known he is a single man and is sixty-six years of age. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 23, 1932)
Funeral Services Friday for Peter H. Brown
Funeral services were held Friday morning at nine o’clock at the Sternborg funeral chapel for Peter H. Brown, 66, who took his own life Sunday morning by drinking carbolic acid. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery. The body had been held here in an endeavor to find relatives but none were located. Friends and former employers of the deceased man attended the body in the last rites. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, November 25, 1932)
